Hello and welcome, you've found us on the web and we hope to see
you on the water at the Wakatipu Yacht Club.
We are based close to Queenstown NZ towards the end of the Kelvin
Peninsula, across the Frankton Arm from Queenstown in the sun.
The Club has an active Sailing Program from late September till
the end of April with a large mixed fleet of Trailer Sailers and
junior and intermediate Dinghys.
An Optimist Learn to Sail Program has been operated for many years
as well as regular Dinghy Coaching Clinics run in conjunction
with the Southland and Otago area sailing clubs.
The Club sails mainly
on Saturdays with set permanent courses in the Frankton Arm for
Dinghies andTrailer Yahts, with Race Starts from the Yacht Club.
Longer distance races traverse the broad expanse of Lake Wakatipu
to Cecil Peak, Walter Peak, and the major annual event The Donald
Hay Classic.
The weekend Islands Series to
Pidgeon Island near Glenorchy and an Overnight Race to the Island
and return cater for those with a zeal to travel further and explore
the western limits of Lake Wakatipu.
The Club has run the "100 Miler' sailing Queenstown-Glenorchy-Kingston-Queenstown
non-stop on demand and reflecting members wishes.
We consider we are fortunate to
have some of the best Lake Sailing in New Zealand together with
possibly the most scenically attractive Yacht Club Site anywhere.
We would
like to share it with you and visitors are always welcome.
We insist on enjoying our sailing in a superb environment and
whilst always competitive the Clubs philosophy has always been
that Races are to be enjoyed and won on the water.
We look forward to seeing
you sometime, check the contacts and Club details for more information,
where else can you, in season, snow ski in the morning + sail
in the afternoon + play in Queenstown at night !!!
